Abstract

Taguchi approach was employed to establish the significant process parameters viz., standoff distance, loading ratio and preset angle to enhance the tensile strength of aluminum-copper explosive clads. The experiments were conducted based on three factors, three-level Taguchi L9 orthogonal array. In addition, an empirical relation based on multiple regression analysis was developed to predict the tensile strength of Al-Cu explosive clads at 95% confidence level. The results indicate that standoff distance followed by loading ratio and preset angle has strong influence in achieving higher tensile strength of Al-Cu explosive clad. The microstructural characterization of Al-Cu explosive clads shows characteristic undulating interfaces.
